Dear Vincent Wines 2024 Nebbiolo Rosé

There’s not a lot of Nebbiolo in The Granite Belt, the current Strangebird Trail info lists Ballandean Estate, rokkwell and Boireann wineries. Now we have to add the Dear Vincent Wines Label from St. Judes Estate (St. Judes Vineyard, Ballandean) to the list. Not sure but there may also be some in the ground in a vineyard along Curtin Road at Ballandean/Lyrah.2024 nebbiolo rosé

If you’re ever going to produce a single variety Rosé then Sangiovese and Nebbiolo are your go to varieties although you could mount a reasonable case for Sagrantino and even Aglianico but I strongly suspect Nebbiolo would be at the top of the list. We now have two locals – this one and Dawn’s at rokkwell.

Sealed under Diam emblazoned with ‘Patron Saint of Good Times’. Rose gold tinted with some bronze hues glisten in the glass.

Very fragrant with strawberries, some honeydew melon, a little citrus and red apple and something rather like quince.

The palate is long and refreshing there is a swell in the mid palate that could be confused with a little sweetness but which is actually an expression of fruit power and yeast. A juxtaposition of slightly sour and slightly quite ripe strawberries moderated by red apple freshness and acidity punches along the palate, if you hold the wine in your mouth for a short while and move your tongue from side to side this seems to magnify the effect of a somewhat yeasty ripe quince flavour which then trails into a dryer and more minerally exit – perhaps think very finely crushed granite flowing in a stream which exhibits just hints of viscosity.

Wait for Spring, which looks like it may be here in a few days. A wine to drink and enjoy.
