Balancing Heart Vineyard 2017 Syrah

Some darker aspects at the depths but the main spectrum is a slightly darker raspberry so a lighter coloured red wine and as you might expect from the rain challenged veraison of the 2017 vintage and a resultant 12.3% alcohol by volume.2017 syrah

Red cherries and liquorice are lightly carried in the bouquet which softly and amicably wafts through your senses. Some slights of darker fruits do become evident along with white pepper spice and a little earthy redolence.

The palate, without being exceptionally long, still produces a lingering mouthfeel of good length. A tumbled gathering of red and darker cherries sluices into a prolonged path of white pepper with a little raspberry tang. There is a lovely savouriness to this lighter bodied red and some fine drying tannins emphasise and accentuate the overall experience.

The longer the wine breathes the more it opens up and increases the enjoyment factor. Eventually you have to acknowledge the considerable skills of Mike Hayes to produce a wine of such character from a rain ravaged veraison.

Not made for the very long haul, enjoy this wine over the next three or so years during Queensland’s summer and autumn.
