Golden Grove 2018 Joven Tempranillo

Quite deeply coloured for a joven style temp. Garnets at the meniscus and impenetrable black elsewhere. The bouquet is cola/cherry cola, sour citrus rind, hints of plums and spice. Showing excellent fruit weight this medium bodied wine has a juicy palate with a high drinkability factor. Initially there are hints of plum sweetness which disappears as soon as you notice it as more dominant black sour cherries and an orange rind tangy acidity thing greet your palate, there are spices and ripe stalky characters, grape and stalk tannins come to the fore later on the palate. The wine is strongly in the sour/savoury spectrum. It’s another Granite Belt ripper Tempranillo. The wine includes 15% whole bunch but, most happily, the stalks are very ripe from a great Granite Belt vintage. James Halliday has rated the 2018 Granite Belt vintage as a 10/10 for red wine.
