Two varieties from Southern France a surprisingly 14.5% for a coolish Granite Belt vintage.
Tannat is a variety that seems to really enjoy the Granite Belt. I remain perplexed that there are only two vineyards where it’s been planted. Mourvedre has also found quite a home on the GB.
Very deeply coloured and still bright in the glass, the bouquet wafts dust and earth, black fruits and liquorice. There is still a good, but non-intrusive, acid drive, the black tea tannins are quite silky, french oak supports the abundant black and purple fruits, olives and spice. Overall balance is impressive, this is a spectacular wine from Boireann.
Tasted: Saturday 23rd February 2019, without food and then with over several hours. Re-tasted the next day after breathing in refrigerated bottle overnight.
