4382 Terroir 2021 Montepulciano

Riverland fruit but I suspect by now Rob Davidson has planted this variety in the old Rees Road Vineyard so in the near future we will see this wine made from actual 4382 fruit and I’m certainly looking forward to that!2021 montepulciano

The colours are brilliant red/ruby/black in the deeper wells and gleaming purple mulberry hues at the meniscus.

The bouquet carries lifted wafts of dark plums, dark cherries, tar, spices and herbs.

The palate is quite smashable and slurpable, black plums are prominent but coalesced with ripe boysenberry, there is a slight sweetness evident but it is very quickly juxtaposed with more dominant savoury flavours as red cherries assert an influence the wine then transforms a little as it introduces some slightly tarry qualities spiked around the edges by cloves and anise pestle ground with a little oregano taste. The mouthfeel is luscious, the wine is medium bodied and the acidity has a slight lemon aspect. A very well made Montepulciano showing Andy Williams footprint of gentle oak support allowing the fruit to shine.

Caution is required when you open one of these it’s a style that can be consumed so quickly that you reach for another pour and are surprised that the bottle is empty!
