4382 Terroir 2021 Mourvèdre

I believe this is the first Mourvèdre wine I’ve tasted made by Andy Williams. Many of you probably realise that myself and Mourvèdre have a long and enduring relationship, so excited to taste my first from Andy.

A slightly muted red colour with radiances of deeper ruby/garnet reflecting from the glass.2021 mourvèdre

Spices, a little vanilla, red and some darker cherries, a little dark liquorice, earth and meaty tones drift invitingly from the glass. Certainly there is a complex of fragrances in the wafts that are a little different from what I often experience from Mourvèdre – this one reminds me somewhat of the Cirrilo Estate Mourvèdre by Marko Cirillo – Marko says of his Mourvèdre, open it today but don’t drink until tomorrow.

Some vanilla at the front of the palatal presentation, initially red fruits such as red cherries and red plums dominate, as the wine breathes some darker fruits begin to emerge, black plums and kalamata olives come to mind, meaty flavours enter the mix with a lightly smoky jamon serrano, a little cardamon mixed with reticent black pepper gently excites the taste buds and exposing some coffee, the finish is propelled by earthy very fine tannins. A lovely earthy, meaty, savoury wine, medium bodied at most but with developing complexity which is one of the true hallmarks of well made Mourvèdre.

Give this wine some time it will appreciate your patience. It is disarmingly gentle at first but then ups the ante on self disclosure – are you ready!
