Boireann Winery 2019 La Cima Barbera

There aren’t many straight Barbera wines on The Granite Belt, this one and the Golden Grove come to mind. Barbera is known, among other things, for it’s lower tannin profile and which tend to be quite soft. This is an excellent rendition you’d travel many kilometres to find a better Barbera than this one.2019 barbera Glowing and radiantly purple at the edges and hedging toward black cherry skin tones in the depths the glass presentation is an unrestrained and enthusiastic invitation. Aromas of cherries, blackberries and plums with lifted violets, lavender and spices with cedary oak softly and gently caress your senses. A most approachable wine driven by fruit and Barbera acidity gifts immediately emancipated black cherries accompanied by a tangled tingling interweaving of darker fruit acidity to your palate. The enlivened fruit is lovely to taste and hints of purple fruits are included in that mix, nutmeg with slights of anise add their spiciness, some smooth vanilla and an almost opulent savouriness present their influence as the wine continues to befriend you and of course there is that entirely unavoidable granitic mineral aspect. The wine tastes young but it is very approachable now and and I’d expect that to continue for another 4 to 5 years.

It is the soft and gentle respect offered in combinable flavoursome partnership with it’s fruit, acid, and tannin that this wine affords all of your engaging senses that truly hallmark it – just a lovely caress!
