Heritage Estate 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon

I purchased this wine on Saturday 30th August, 2014 at The Heritage Estate restaurant at Mt. Tambourine. At the time there was a lovely and very helpful waitress, I can’t remember her name but for some reason ‘Racheal’ comes to mind. Regardless wherever you are now Racheal I wanted to say thank you for helping on more than one occasion to make our visit particularly enjoyable, for the way you interacted with our baby Aria, and for your knowledge of The Granite Belt.

Roses at the meniscus and a very deep inky black everywhere else, it still looks quite young in the glass. Fragrant with cassis and black fruits, there are whiffs of stones, also rose petals, forests and a little toasty oak. The palate, upper medium and approaching full bodied, is lush with classical caressing cabernet cassis, blackcurrants/black berries, minerals are mixed with just perceptible eucalyptus aspects and hints of dark chocolate, there is a little white pepper later on the palate, a supporting background oak and well integrated acid. The tannins are fine with a slight chalkiness but what really hallmarks this wine is balance, not a step out of place as it marches across your palate with a lovely gentle unfolding complexity. Some vintages are not that well suited to cabernet sauvignon on The Granite Belt while others excel, 2012 produced some great cabernets and this one may well be at the apex. There is no rush to consume this wine, a continuing slumber in your cellar will reward further patience.
