rokkwell 2022 Fumé Blanc

During my recent excursion to The Granite Belt I had the absolute pleasure of encountering the lovely, humble but enthusiastic Dawn Walker for 2 uninterrupted hours of her generous time. 2022 fumé blanc I predict, and it isn’t just myself, that this talented young lady will rapidly become a genuine local star among wine makers and wine consumers. Her winery isn’t yet formally open to the public but it deserves to be swamped when it is.

This is a classy, complex and exquisitely bold Sauvignon Blanc made in the fumé barrell fermented style. Very pale lemon with light straw radiant glints gleaming in the glass.

The bouquet is complex and compelling with poached pear, vanilla, honey suckle and honey, pithy stone fruits – yellow flesh peaches, a little apricot and grapefruit.

The palate features boisterous brioche infused with manuka and leatherwood honey, some nougat, the pips and close fleshy surrounds of peaches, nectarines and reticent apricot, sour lemon rind and brown lime zest. Textural, rounded and mouth filling, a unique and utterly delicious fumé blanc. I am unabashedly excited at this new local wine from such a fresh local talent.
